Castle Ghosts

Random House Children’s Books publish the Spook’s Series and only very rarely do I write for anyone else. But when my first editor, Charlie Sheppard (who discovered and signed the books) asked me to write a story, I simply couldn’t resist.

My story is called ‘The Castle Ghosts’ and is in an anthology of ghostly stories called ‘Haunted’, to be published by Anderson Press in September 2011.

It was inspired by a visit to Lancaster Castle to give a talk to the prisoners there. Afterwards a guard called Mick Ross told me some very creepy stories about the castle and showed me the dungeon where they imprisoned the real Pendle Witches (photos of it are on this website). So that became the foundation of what I have written.

In the anthology are ghost stories by eleven writers in all, including Derek Landy, Susan Cooper and Matt Haig. I haven’t read their stories yet and I am looking forward to receiving my advance copy!

Best wishes,

Joseph Delaney
